Get ready to break out your red, white, and blue – our biggest neighborhood tradition is back. Join us for a beloved community event designed to bring neighbors together and kick off the summer festivities.
This year’s celebration will take place on Saturday, June 28, at Sunset Park (E. 2nd Ave. and Pontiac St.), starting at 10:00 a.m. Early birds can join the free bike / wagon & pet decorating session at 9:30 a.m.
- Parade: The festivities will kick off with a lively parade around Sunset Park, filled with patriotic music. Leading the procession will be the distinguished Denver Mounted Police, followed by the towering Uncle Sam the Stilt-man, and a vibrant display of children on their patriotically decorated bikes and scooters. Bagpipers will add a traditional flair, followed by community organizations including LUN, our generous sponsors, and individual walkers with decorated wagons and pets. Bringing up the rear will be the Litter Free Lowry’s “Clean Team” and its special precision drill team, ensuring a fun and spirited finish.
- Prizes & Recognition: Following the parade, prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated categories, there will be prizes awarded in a variety of categories generously donated by local Lowry merchants.
- Old-Fashioned Kids’ Games: Reintroducing classic fun, the event will feature a variety of old-fashioned kids’ games, including three-legged races, sack races, egg on a spoon, limbo, and water balloon toss. Many children experienced these games for the first time at last year’s event and loved them. Participants can win gold, silver and bronze medals.
- Free Face Painting: Kids can also enjoy complimentary face painting.
- Affordable Refreshments: While most activities are free thanks to LUN and our sponsors, no picnic is complete without hotdogs. LUN will be offering a special deal: a hot dog, chips, and a drink for just $4, making it an affordable treat for any young family.
- Community Booths: Attendees can explore numerous booths from Lowry merchants, donors, and community organizations, including our primary gold sponsors, The Lowry Foundation and Denver Council District 5 and Roots Yoga.
- Cooling Off with the DFD: At noon, when the summer sun is at its peak, Lowry’s local Denver Fire Department Station # 18 will set up a refreshing water spray so kids can run through and cool off. Children will also can check out DPD’s fire truck and Denver Police vehicles up close.
