Reporting Car Meetups

Several LUN board members met with three Denver Parks and Recreation employees in early May and learned what to do if you see a car meetup happening in a Denver park.

A few things to know beforehand are:

  • There are only four rangers for 122 parks in the NE district that Lowry resides in
  • Park rules do allow gatherings of 25 people or less without a permit
  • Beer and wine are okay, but glass containers and hard alcohol are not allowed in Denver parks
  • Amplified music is allowed to 55 decibels
  • Parks are open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Dogs must be on a leash
  • No weapons allowed

If you see a car meetup starting, you can call 311 and press 6 to be put in touch with personnel from Denver Parks and Recreation department. A ranger will make a service call to check out the situation as they are able. The ranger may give a warning about turning down music and if they must come again, they may issue a citation. Rangers can give tickets, but cannot arrest a citizen. They don’t carry guns, but they do carry pepper spray, a baton and they know self-defense.

You can also call the police non-emergency number, 720-913-2000, to report the gathering and you should call 911 if you see a weapon or a crime in action. Always ask for a call back when reporting to 911, so you will know if action was taken.
