Our LUN/LUV volunteers spend a lot of time sorting, weighing, and packing bulk goods at the Food Bank of the Rockies warehouse. But seeing the other end of that effort – the actual handoff to local families – brings the entire mission full circle.

Every fourth Tuesday of the month, summer or winter, the Dan Anderson Lowry Food Pantry opens on the old Lowry campus off North Alton Road near the barracks.

• The Delivery: At 8 a.m., a semi-truck delivers pallets of fresh produce, bread, milk, eggs, butter, cheese, meat and staple canned goods.
• The Assembly Line: Dan’s volunteer crew unloads and organizes the haul, building custom grocery boxes tailored for registered households.
• The Drive-Through: Cars line up several hundred yards long, three wide. This past week alone, the team served more than 75 registered families.

Dan has done a tremendous job managing this operation over the past year. Our neighbors’ gratitude is palpable – one driver summed up the morning perfectly as she pulled away: “God bless you all.” Take a look at a few photos below from this week’s distribution.
