Firehouse Theater Company Presents Flyin’ West

This production means a lot to the Firehouse Theater Company.

They began planning this collaboration with 5280 Artist Coop over two years ago and are honored and gratified that we are now–finally–able to open the show.

Flyin’ West tells a powerful and inspiring story about freed slaves and their descendants who took advantage of the Homestead Act to settle in the west during Reconstruction.

There were many such all-Black settlements throughout the west and this play is based on the actual town of Nicodemus, Kansas.

The play shows the challenges and hardships faced by the settlers and helps us understand their incredible pride, fortitude, and love.
