Best One Yet – LUN  4th Annual Independence Parade & Celebration

It’s in the history books … LUN’s 4th Annual Independence Parade & Celebration took place at Sunset Park on Saturday, July 27. It takes a village to put on an event like this one and the Lowry community stepped up and turned out!

Decorated bikes, other wheeled conveyances and pets, along with the Denver mounted police on horseback, Stiltman, a LUN contingency including a marching hotdog, and the Denver Public Library Bookmobile made up the parade. Prizes from our local businesses were awarded in three categories – bikes, other wheels and pets. Walter’s Pizza, Rocket Ice Cream and Woodgrain Bagels provided prizes for the bikes and wheels. Chewy’s provided all the prizes for the pets.

After the parade, there was a panoply of other fun activities. For the kids, there were old fashioned games along with a spinning wheel where everyone could win a prize. There was face painting and a photo booth, compliments of one of our LUN board members Amanda Crocker. The “dog team” provided tasty hot dogs for sale. The LUN Climate Action Committee gave away free popsicles. For the adults this year, there was a raffle with 28 prizes from our local businesses. We appreciate every business that contributed and made this year’s celebration such a big success. We ask that you support them often.

Another special thank you to the elected officials and community leaders who joined us at this year’s Independence Parade & Celebration. We are grateful for your continued support of Lowry United Neighborhoods and taking the time to connect directly with our residents. Building a strong community starts with listening, collaboration and partnerships. We appreciate your commitment to being part of that effort thank you for making Lowry such a wonderful place to live.

Our many volunteers are essential to the success of this event, especially Denny Head who is the grand orchestrator of this event and LUN Treasurer, Tom Oury and all the LUN Board. We are also appreciative to the Denver Police Department, the Denver Fire Department, and the Denver Public Library bookmobile.

None of this could have been accomplished without the support from our key donors … the Lowry Community Master Association (LCMA); Amanda Sawyer, Councilwoman, District 5; the Lowry Foundation; Dr. Kareen McIntosh, Mackintosh Dentistry; Modern Dentistry; and LUN Board Member Amanda Crocker.
