Back-to-School Barbeque & Backpacks at Blue Spruce Apartments

Kristine Thomas

On Friday afternoon, July 28, Blue Spruce Apartments held a successful Back-to-School Barbeque event on their property. Lowry United Neighborhoods (LUN) coordinated with Kristine Thomas (Blue Spruce Case Manager for Family Support Services for Colorado Coalition for Homeless) to help support the event by ordering backpacks. LUN was able to donate 24 backpacks thanks to donations from the Lowry Help Group. The Denver Police Department also donated 20 backpacks enabling Blue Spruce to support about 30 families whose kids are getting ready to go back to school in August.  David Allen grilled burgers and Kathy and Dennis Head of the LUN board attended the event.

Additionally, LUN received from the Salvation Army 10 fully-loaded backpacks for the Blue Spruce community and 10 backpacks for the Volunteers of America Residences at Boulevard One.
