Lowry United Neighborhoods (LUN) is thrilled with the overwhelming positive feedback from attendees and participants of the Second Annual LUN Independence Day Celebration, held on Saturday, June 29, at Tailwind Park in East Lowry. The event was a great success, drawing an estimated 300 attendees, with the majority being children. Kids and adults alike had a fantastic time decorating their bikes, scooters, pets and strollers for the parade, which was led by the Denver Mounted Police, the Stiltman and the “Mayberry Police” car.

Gift certificates from locally owned businesses were awarded for parade best of show. A special thanks to Chewy’s, Lowry Beer Garden, North County, Timbuk Toys, and Walters for their generous contributions.

Following the parade there was free face painting and the LUN food tent offered hotdogs, chips and drinks for $3. Rockin’ Rob, a Lowry DJ, provided music, and the Lowry District 18 Fire Department delighted the kids with a refreshing water spray.

A challenge for LUN has been engaging younger families with children. The Independence Celebration successfully reached this target audience. A highlight of the day was the nearly hour-long session of old-fashioned games led by the Stiltman. Children participated in sack races, three-legged races, limbo, and egg-on-the-spoon races. Winners received Olympic-style gold, silver, and bronze medals.

None of this could have been accomplished without the support of the Lowry Foundation and their Starbright Fund as our Presenting Sponsor. Thanks to our Gold Sponsors – Vitalant; Amanda Sawyer, District 5 Councilwoman; LCMA – and the 30 local volunteers who helped stage, manage, promote, decorate, cook, serve, and clean up after the event. A special shout-out to Denny Head, who dedicated a tremendous number of hours to this event on behalf of Lowry United Neighborhoods. It would not have been possible without his hard work and effort. Thanks also to the local businesses, including Chewy’s, Lowry Business Alliance (LBA), Lowry Foundation (TLF), Petite Gateaux, Pacific Dental, and Councilwoman Amanda Sawyer, who set up booths.

Thanks to everyone for your invaluable support.
