Silver Ropes Volunteer Schedule & Program Transition

Volunteering

Many of you know that the Lowry Foundation has asked Lowry United Neighborhoods (LUN) to take over the Silver Ropes Volunteer Program. Having coordinated this initiative from its start until I left the Foundation Board in 2025, I have a deep commitment to this work. I’m very much looking forward to seeing it grow and thrive under the LUN umbrella.

I’ve been working with the Food Bank of the Rockies coordinating team to lock in our summer dates. This is a bit of a departure for us, as we’ve traditionally taken the summer months off. However, the demand for food assistance doesn’t take a vacation, and the need for hands-on help remains high.

Upcoming Volunteer Dates

  • Thursday, June 25:SPECIAL MORNING SESSION | 8:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
    • Please note the time change! This differs from our usual afternoon slot, but it was the only option available for a group of our size in June.
  • Thursday, July 9: 1 – 4 p.m. (Registration opens May 9)
  • Thursday, August 13: 1 – 4 p.m. (Registration opens June 13)

Registration Details

Location: Food Bank of the Rockies (Volunteer Center), 20600 E 38th Ave, Aurora, CO 80011.

The Food Bank requires every member to register individually to track hours and sign the digital waiver.

  2. Select Date: Click the green “Sign up” button next to your chosen date.
  3. Log In: If you don’t have an account, you’ll be prompted to create one (you can skip the “join code” step).
  4. Deadline: We must fill our 15 spots at least two weeks prior to each shift. After that, the Food Bank releases unfilled spots to the general public.

A New Name for a New Chapter?

As we transition to LUN, I’m considering a name change that reflects our evolving community identity. While our mission remains the same, I’d love a name that captures the “Lowry volunteer spirit.”
