Denver, CO— December 20, 2024—The Schlessman Family Branch Library will temporarily close for renovations beginning January 20, 2025.

Renovation Scope

  • Include a full renovation and expanded square footage, creating more community-centered spaces to support the needs of a growing neighborhood.
  • Feature a new Teen Space and an expanded children’s library.
  • Reconfigure the floor plan to provide spaces for learning, making, creating, meeting, and collaborating, all designed with accessibility in mind.

Nearby branches that can be utilized while Schlessman Family Branch is closed are Sam Gary in Cherry Creek (2961 Roslyn St · (720) 865-0325) and Virginia Village (1500 S Dahlia St · (720) 865-0940). The default holds location will be Virginia Village. Customers are encouraged to call or come in and let staff know if they would like their holds sent somewhere other than Virginia Village Branch Library.

Background

In 2023, the Schlessman Family Branch Library ranked as the second-most visited branch in the Denver Public Library system, with an impressive 149,960 visits. This 21-year-old building plays a vital role in serving families, older adults, youth, and immigrants in Lowry and surrounding neighborhoods.

Funding

This significant project is made possible through a $3.52 million allocation from the Elevate Denver GO Bond Program and an additional $1 million from the Denver Public Library Fund.
