YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE TO MAKING OUR COMMUNITY SAFER AND MORE SECURE
Learn how on Tuesday, Feb. 20 from 4 – 5 p.m. at Senior Planet.
In January, Lowry United Neighborhoods (LUN) hosted a meeting on crime and safety for the Lowry Community with Denver Chief of Police, Ron Thomas, and Denver District Attorney, Beth McCann. They discussed activities and programs that can increase safety in our community.
The police are not the only ones that can significantly reduce crime, we all have a role that can contribute to safer and more secure neighborhoods. The key is knowing your neighbors. Neighbors who know neighbors tend to watch out for each other and report if something does not look right. A secondary, but significant, benefit is neighbors who know neighbors make a stronger community by building social interaction and holding neighborhood events.
The program is called Block Builders. Other Denver neighborhood organizations have successfully used Block Builder programs for many years. It involves a volunteer block leader (or co-leaders) maintaining and sharing a private contact list within your neighborhood block or housing complex.
At the January meeting, LUN announced we would facilitate an introductory meeting for neighbors who would like to learn more about Block Builders. This meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 20 from 4:-5:00 p.m.at Senior Planet.
