This month, we celebrate the installation of a new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) at South Fairmont Drive and East Bayaud Avenue/Sports Blvd. The city added a crosswalk, curb extensions and push button activated flashing lights. A RRFB is a user-activated yellow LED traffic alert system mounted on crosswalk signs to help people cross safely. It flashes rapidly like emergency lights to catch driver attention. Research proves these systems cut pedestrian crashes by up to 47% and boost driver yielding rates up to 98%.
Congrats to Barb DeSarro of our LUN Traffic & Safety Committee for staying after this one!
