DOTI: Denver’s Mulch & Compost Giveaway

Denver’s Department of Transportation and infrastructure (DOTI)  is hosting its annual mulch giveaway on Saturday, May 2, from 8:00 a.m. –  2:00 p.m. and is also offering Denver residents and opportunity for red to register for a limited amount of free compost get two great products that are good for your garden! Holiday trees dropped off during the tree cycle program are mulched and distributed back to Denver residences for free each spring. Compost is Created from food scraps and yard waste collected from Denver’s compost program and donated from Waste Management.

Dig-Your-Own MULCH will be available at FOUR locations this year, while supplies last:

  • Denver Central Platte Campus, North Entrance (Enter through the campus gates at 2000 W. 3rdAvenue. Head right at the stop sign and follow signs for Mulch Giveaway)
  • Cherry Creek Transfer Station (7301 E Jewell Ave. Enter on E. Jewell Ave)
  • Sloan’s Lake Park North Parking Lot (N. Yates St. & W. Byron Pl.)
  • Havana Nursery (10450 Smith Rd.)

*In addition to dig-your-own, free loader service is available at the Havana location for trucks and small, one axle trailers.

  • Mulch is available on first-come-first-served basis
  • Please bring your own rake or shovel, as well as bags or containers for loading mulch and a tarp to cover your truck or trailer
  • Denver residents only; commercial vehicles are prohibited from taking or selling the mulch or compost from this event

Dig-Your-Own COMPOST will be available at ONE location – registration required*

  • Denver Central Platte Campus, South Entrance (Enter through the campus gates at 1271 W. Bayaud Ave. and drive past the Denver Animal Shelter)
  • *Advance registration is required for free compost. Visit denvergov.org/mulch to sign up and receive a coupon confirmation code
  • Residents should bring their coupon code, a one 5-gallon bucket, shovel, and proof of Denver residency
  • Quantities are limited

Did You Know?

Mulch retains soil moisture, suppresses weeds, keeps soil and plant roots cool, prevents frost heaving in winter, and makes a garden bed and landscape look more attractive. The mulch at our giveaway is made from tree branches and holiday trees residents recycled through Denver’s Treecycle collection program.
