Lowry United Neighborhoods (LUN) has accomplished an incredible set of community-focused initiatives throughout the past year, strengthening connections, fostering safety, and building an engaged, vibrant Lowry.

Here’s a look at what LUN has achieved in 2023 – 2024:

Lowry Town Halls Meetings & Civic Engagement
LUN organized a series of impactful meetings, bringing key leaders and voices to Lowry.

  • Crime & Safety: Featuring Denver’s Chief of Police, Denver Police Department District 3 Commander, community officers, the Denver District Attorney and the City Attorney.
  • Mayoral and City Council Candidates: Hosted discussions with candidates in key local races and the first to host the mayoral runoff candidates, setting a high standard for civic engagement in Lowry.
  • Traffic & Safety: Molly Lanphier, from the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) talked about how decisions get made at DOTI.
  • Housing the Unhoused: Focused on critical community concerns around a sales tax increase to provide affordable housing and services to the unhoused and to expand affordable Denver housing options.

Communications & Information Sharing

  • Publishes every month the LUN Newsletter, keeping residents informed about events, news, and initiatives.
  • Maintains an updated LUN website and the Lowry Community Calendar, serving as a reliable resource for all Lowry residents.
  • LUN’s INC representative attended monthly meetings of the Inter-neighborhood Cooperation (INC), the organization that brings together all of Denver’s neighborhoods.

Special Events and Initiatives

  • Held a festive holiday fundraiser with community support from Melly Kinnard.
  • Organized a successful Earth Day Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event, contributing to a cleaner, safer environment.
  • Planned and staffed the second annual Lowry Independence Celebration. This year, LUN took the lead as the primary organizer and sponsor of the Independence Day Celebration, creating a memorable and family-friendly community event that brought residents of all ages together, This event featured  a patriotic parade, Old time kids games, the Denver Fire department sprayed water over the park for kid to run under plus  food and music. 

Community Programs & Partnerships

  • Launched the Block Builders Program with Volunteer Block Leaders signing up to strengthen neighbor-to-neighbor connections.
  • Participated in quarterly OneLowry meetings to collaborate and promote synergy among Lowry organizations. The OneLowry coalition includes The Lowry Foundation, Lowry Business Alliance, Lowry Community Master Association, and Boulevard One Community Association. LUN also developed and maintains the OneLowry website and Lowry Community Calendar.
  • Coordinated with DPD District 3 on neighborhood and business watches, hosting two business watch events in Lowry Town Center and the B-1 Exchange.

Engagement with Vulnerable Communities
LUN made strides to reach out to Renaissance Blue Spruce, Renaissance Lowry, and Boulevard One (VOA) residences. Highlights include safety meetings with police officers, back-to-school backpacks for Blue Spruce middle schoolers, and gardening assistance. LUN also extended outreach to Grand Lowry Lofts, ensuring no corner of our community is overlooked.

Safety, Transportation, and Sustainability

  • The Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Traffic Committee held regular meetings, addressing traffic concerns—especially within Boulevard One.
  • Held monthly Traffic & Safety Committee meetings and stablished action items.
  • Continued ongoing relationship with Denver DOTI to solve traffic concerns in Lowry. This effort has been ongoing for nine years.
  • Participated in CW Sawyer’s Uinta Traffic Study.
  • Worked with CW Sawyer on bi-annual East Park Zoom Meetings, staying updated on city planning and community impacts.
  • Connected residents near Blue Spruce to management and Xcel to get street lights repaired.
  • Assisted the DPD District 3 Community Engagement Program with the production two Lowry anti-license plate theft events.  
  • Represented LUN at monthly Community Action meetings at DPD District 3 headquarters and at ‘Coffee with a Cop’ events.
  • Connected Stanley British Primary School with DOTI’s Safe Routes to School representative to get safer crossing for students at Quebec St.
  • Sponsored a successful Earth Day Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event, contributing to a cleaner, safer environment.

Building Strong Neighborhood Agreements
To maintain Lowry’s community standards, LUN fostered Good Neighbor Agreements with The Hangar Club, Denver Beer Co., and Social Cannabis
