This year, the Denver INC (Inter-Neighborhood Connection) celebrated its 50th anniversary and held a celebratory dinner and awards ceremony at the Art Hotel. In his surprise announcement of awarding the 2025 INC President’s Service Award to LUN, Keith Meyer, INC President, said the following:  “LUN exemplifies what it means to build strong neighborhood connections. The organization brings neighbors together through quarterly meetings on key community issues like sustainability, housing, and safety—giving residents a true voice in shaping Lowry’s future. Their work extends beyond meetings, leading efforts on community, sustainability, housing and safety. These embody the power of neighbors working together to create a more inclusive, resilient, and connected community, both with-in Lowry and across Denver.” Keith expressed gratitude to LUN Board members who regularly show up to help staff INC events.  He noted LUN accomplishments and said, “These dedicated board members exemplify what it means to build and nurture a vibrant and connected neighborhood.”

Key Accomplishments of LUN this year:

  • Advocacy & Civic Engagement: LUN ensures effective representation for Lowry with the city. Our commitment to transparent, local democracy was highlighted by Attorney General Phil Weiser at a recent LUN Town Hall, when he thanked LUN for hosting, calling it: “a perfect example of democracy—where involved citizens interact with their representatives and learn about the issues and the respective approaches.”
  • Local Connection: LUN expanded its grassroots efforts to include 25 organized Block Builders: This essential network fosters block-by-block safety and connection.
  • Safety Events: LUN Traffic and Safety committee has worked in collaboration with Denver Police Department, District 3 and DOTI. It has hosted events for the Lowry Neighborhoods, for homeowners and renters. To quote long-time LUN board member, Sally Kurtzman, “We are all one Lowry.”
  • Neighborhood Clean Team: The successful execution of the Litter Free Lowry initiative, supported by dedicated volunteers, has established our standard for maintaining one of the cleanest neighborhoods in Denver and engaging neighbors and schools in the effort.
  • Annual Independence Celebration:  This LUN hosted annual event connects over 300 neighbors of all ages.  This year awards for Independence Day themed decorations went to kids on bikes and in strollers and to a senior couple who marched in the parade with decorated walkers.

These efforts—from composting and recycling education, clean climate advocacy, connecting and welcoming neighbors, collaborating with city leaders embody the power of neighbors working together to create a more inclusive, resilient, and connected community. Lowry United Neighborhoods (LUN) is fortunate to be guided by a group of deeply committed and inspiring board members whose individual contributions have strengthened both Lowry and the broader Denver community.
