Members of the LUN board met with Promenade neighbors, Wings Over the Rockies (WOTR) management, Denver Police Department (DPD) District 3 community resource officers, and the DPD community engagement program manager, on March 5 to discuss the issue of car meetups in the Wings parking lots that have been occurring over the past three years. Thank you to Amanda Crocker (on our LUN traffic and safety committee) for helping to organize the meeting.
Items discussed were activating a trespass agreement, creating signage, securing chains across the two east driveways, as well as reviewing the proper steps to report these incidents. Wings management is working on a solution that fits within the budget of their non-profit. Please report incidents if you see or hear them occurring in the Wings parking lot as follows:
– When calling to report incidents – if occurring at WOTR parking lot- give this address to dispatch:
7711 E Academy Blvd, Denver, CO 80230. This helps with gathering data for the DPD officers.
– Give a detailed account of exactly what’s happening.
– Ask for a call back, so that an officer follows up.
– You can report as “disturbing the peace” but you’ll have to tell how it affects your life (i.e. can’t
sleep and go to work) and will have to sign a complaint. No anonymity.
– Can call 911 if a crime is in progress, or call the non-emergency line – 720.913.2000.
– Report hearing cars, send photos and video links to http://reportstreetracing.com (a link to video is
helpful).
– The more data received the better. DPD does use this information to track down cars, car meetups and build a case.
